Using Venus, the Planet of Beauty, for Design Direction
How can we tap into our natal placement of Venus to inform our design style? If you don’t know your Venus placement, go to Astro.com to pull up your chart, then use the guide below to get an idea of how you Venus style is best expressed! While I never prescribe specific design styles, use your placement for design direction and inpiration.
Aries
Venus in Mars ruled, cardinal, fire sign Aries is bold and direct. She knows what she wants instictually and wants to execute ASAP! Playful, youthful, colorful. When Venus is in this Mars ruled fire sign there is a clear path to get what you want and a focus on action, however technically in ‘detriment’ so Venus is not always comfortable with this pace or appraoch. You might not need a longer design process, but work on impulse and opt for DIY projects, in stock retail/impulse buys, flat pack style furnishings you can build yourself (not always recommended, but hey, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do). So follow those design sparks and go for it! Ikea kitchens, for example, are no fuss, functional, and relatively easy to design and install. Upgrade your range, install a fire feature in your backyard, or light some candles. Work with the colors of spring- green, yellow, red and more!
IKEA kitchen inspo in sage green, brining spring vibes and a place for everything.
Taurus
Venus is at home in the fixed earth sign Taurus, one of the signs of her rulership. Here the focus is on sensual pleasure- soothing textures, grounding sensory inputs, and creating a place you never want to leave. A garden of earthly delights. Venus here prioritizes the body, resources, and values. Abundance. An embarrassment of riches. Our needs met and shared, nourishing through food and nature. Slip off your shoes and get outside. Select natural materials like wood, linen, mycelium and cork. Botanical prints.

Gemini
Venus in mutable, air sign Gemini, ruled by Mercury, is flirty, curious, and flighty. Design with flexibility in mind, areas to socialize and gather, and connect through ideas and inspiration. At the time of this publication, Venus has just moved into Gemini, as has Uranus, so Gemini is getting a lot of expression! New perspectives, beginners mind, and feeling free to express yourself are signatures of this placement. The expanse of a blue desert sky holds the wonder of Gemini. Travel for cross cultural decor inspiration, or take your home on the road. Think bigger. Speak in alignment with your values. Choose lighter tones, breezy fabrics, and natural light. Add window treatments, create a reading nook, or revamp your office. Open the window and let the birdsong in.
Venus in Gemini is an avid learner, traveler, and wisdom seeker.
Cancer
Venus in cardina, Moon ruled, l water sign Cancer is a lover of home and family, creating spaces of safety and nurturance. This cardinal water sign indicates relational awareness and connection through f e e l i n g and e m o t i o n. Cancer tends the hearth and body, creating spaces that nurture family, chosen and ancestral lineages. I’m thinking jacuzzis, cold plunges, baths. I’m thinking living room makeovers. I’m thinking reflective surfaces, metals, stone, shell, cream, abolone, pearl. Aquatic motifs. Family heirlooms. Ancestral relics. Objects that promote comfort.
Leo
Venus in fixed, Sun ruled, fire sign Leo is the heart on your sleeve. Venus is courageous about identifying desire and drawing objects of affection near. Go big or go home. Well, go home and go big? Maximallism may serve you well. Bold colors, gold, pattern mixing, genre bending ecclecticism. Loud music and soft textiles. A silk slip dress for summer. Even if your space is sparse, it’s a stage for your personal expression. I’m reminded of Miranda July dancing in her living room or exploring a summer outfit.
Virgo
Venus in mutalble, Mercury ruled, earth sign Virgo is in her fall (opposite her exhaltation) and not feeling super seen here. She may be effective in helping organize kitchen drawers, creating organizational systems for greater efficiency, or creating spaces for self care ritual. Venus is a bit reserved here, but also self satisfied. Comfort is found in the beauty of a well designed space where form and function blend seamlessly, there is a home for everything, and intention is the through line for every choice. Venus here is not the ‘perfectionist’ but definitely feels more at ease with a thoughtuflly curated space. Elegance, simplicity, and function are key. A place for mind and body to unify. A place to make herbal tea and roll out the yoga mat. Plants galore!
Libra
Venus in cardinal, air sign Libra is in domicile, or at home. Let’s talk about beauty. Rearrange the artwork. Let’s create spaces for equity, mediation, and justice. There is a natural aesthetic with Venus in Libra that intuitively knows how to put things together and create beautiful environments that feel welcoming and put you at ease. They’re refined and elevated without being ‘precious’. (Isn’t that adorable when celebrieies with ultra luxe spaces let you know that their homes are not ‘precious’? See any celeb AD100 Open Door tour if you don’t know what I’m talking about!! ;) Anyhoo, Venus would love for you to ask how you can bring more beauty into your surroundings, beautiful things that feel meaningful, healing, or symbolic.
Scorpio
Darling Venus is in detriment here in fixed, water sign Scorpio. She is the dark sparkle of goth and plays at edge of her desires. She finds beauty in the dark, the shadow, and the underbelly. Moody, to say the least. Lean into darker palettes and invite depth and intimacy, a place where secrets are more easily shared and occulted wisdom is revealed. Antiques, velvet, vintage, sheepskin, plush wool rugs, aged patinas, plastered walls.
Sagittarius
Venus in mutable, Jupiter ruled fire sign Sagittarius is playfully high minded. A visionary who connects with enthusasm and an advenurous spirit. The image that I always associate with Sag is the Scalamandre zebra + arrows print. Playful yet worldly. Venus wants to connect around faith, philosophy, beliefs. Make space to refect your worldview in the space around you. This might not be obvious, but mindful sourcing, for example, might align with your ideals (voting with your dollars). These spaces are less about detail and more about the big picture- how the space feels collectively and cohesively. Venus here might be a little boho/ transitional.
Capricorn
Venus in cardinal, Saturn ruled, Earth sign Capricorn there is a deep comfort in Earthly matters. Tending deep roots and deep traditions. Old ways. Quality over quantity (I mean always, but especially in this placement. Speaking with this placement personally!) Contemorary + rustic. Architectural features. A place to get quiet and hibernate.
Aquarius
Venus in fixed, Saturn ruled, air sign Aquarius appreciates a minimal environment. Neutral palette and big windows. A place to rest into the complexities of being human without having to interract with humans. She’s dreaming up her next invention that serves humanity in the peace and calm of quiet luxury. Contemplative mid-winter clean slate vibes.
Pisces
Venus is exhalted in mutable, water sign Pisces. As a honored guest in this sign, Venus is treated like royalty and bestowed respect for her deep artistry, intuition, prophetic dreams, and empathy. She’s mystical and connected to deity, the source of all. Relations feel romantic and intuitively creative- a place for etheric arts like music, film, poetry and photography.
