Meet the Designer
Land Acknowledgement
The Portland Metro area rests on traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla, and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River. Indigenous people have created communities and summer encampments to harvest and enjoy the plentiful natural resources of the area for the last 11,000 years.
We want to recognize that Portland today is a community of many diverse Native peoples who continue to live and work here. We respectfully acknowledge and honor all Indigenous communities—past, present, and future—and are grateful for their ongoing and vibrant presence.
We also acknowledge the systemic policies of genocide, relocation, and assimilation that still impact many Indigenous/Native American families today. As settlers and guests on these lands, we respect the work of Indigenous leaders and families and pledge to make ongoing efforts to recognize their knowledge, creativity, and resilience.
Hello! I’m Jamie Smith, founder of Happy Haüs Studios, where I combine a passion for design, well-being, and sustainability to create beautiful spaces that inspire rejuvenation and relaxation.
My journey into interior design is grounded in a unique blend of experiences. With a Master’s Certification from the Heritage School of Interior Design, I bring formal training and an eye for detail to every project. I’ve deepened my expertise in sustainability through programs like the Healthy Materials Lab at Parsons School of Design and Biophilic Design with the Living Future Institute, ensuring the spaces I create are as healthy as they are beautiful.
Beyond design, my background in Cultural Anthropology (B.A., UCSC) and 20+ years as a Licensed Massage Therapist and Certified Holistic Health Coach have shaped my holistic approach.
I also share my knowledge as an instructor of “Massage Room Design” at the Oregon School of Massage, and I am proud to be a member of the Interior Design Society.
I live in Southeast Portland, Oregon, with my husband and son, where I draw inspiration from the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and my passion for the arts. When I’m not designing interiors, I love to travel, garden, practice German, French, and Spanish, and play the piano. These pursuits enrich my life and inform my design practice, fostering curiosity, cross-cultural awareness, and an appreciation for artistry, tradition, and the natural world.
