MY BATHROOM REMODEL
Our bathroom was ripe for transformation, and all it took was a seal leak on the toilet, causing the vinyl flooring to bubble up, to promt a full remodel.
The layout was really problematic, with the door swing not fully clearing the sink, a very narrow space between the sink and the large built in closet, which took up way too much of the footprint. The toilet was visible from the dining room- not great. The framing for the shower/tub covered about a third of the window, with a built in shutter on the bottom pane, blocking a lot of natural light. The corner was taken up by an unused laundry shoot. The vinyl flooring was dated and in bad shape.
After a full gut, we were able to install an original clawfoot that had been in the basement since we’d purchased the home. We installed nickel hardware and a hemp shower curtain, white penny tile with dark grout, wainscotting, a new vanity, vintage light fixtures, and an eclectic mix of shelving and towel hooks. We retained an original built-in shelf, previously behind the closed doors of the massive closet.
The outcome is a much more spacious bathroom with mix of vintage and new finishes, much more daylighting, that’s much more functional and enjoyable. It feels historically authentic with plenty of personality and a lot of breathing room.
